November 9 – December 3, 2004
Legacy Maltwood (at McPherson Library)
An exhibit curated by Victoria artist Phyllis Serota who has facilitated a studio painting tutorial since 1993. This showing features recent works by her members.
While the membership of the group has changed over the years, the intent has not: Serota encourages her students to explore the medium of paint by creating an atmosphere that supports experimentation with subject matter and technique. The artists work independently and bring their canvases to month critiques. The commitment of their monthly meeting serves as both an inspiration an a challenge to the group members to produce new work and to articulate their intent. While Serota’s studio group focuses on the formal elements of painting – composition, light, colour and texture – Serota also emphasizes the sheer joy of painting.
The artists included in this show were: Phyllis Serota, Susan Corner, Katherine Farris, Dominic Fetherston, Linda Lange, Linda Maasch, and Betsy Tumasonis.
