Art 2000 International Exhibit

Maltwood Art Museum and Gallery

The exhibit is a project 12 years in the making, tracing the artworks of students from their kindergarten year in 1988 to their graduation in the class of 2000. Students’ works from Northern Ireland, Australia, China and Canada will be shown in this retrospective along with accompanying slides and video.

The presentation of the Millennium Mural, a project created by Greater Victoria students and directed by artist Carol Sabiston, will be presented to the people of Greater Victoria. The celebration will showcase the performing arts in Victoria.

Modern Art from the People’s Republic of China

February 9 – March 18, 1983

Maltwood Art Gallery

This was an exhibition of works done by the students of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing. The purpose of the exhibition was to give western Canadians a greater understanding and appreciation for the Chinese approach to works of art on paper or canvas. To this end, it included traditional and contemporary works. It featured oil paintings, acrylic paintings, watercolours, and woodcut prints and received a very positive response from the community.

Victoria College of Art

October 27 – November 19, 1982

Maltwood Art Gallery

This was an exhibition of student work from the Victoria College of Art. The pieces represent a change in the college’s curriculum as it embarked upon an experimental programme devoted entirely to the exploration of colour and form.

Artists included Richard Bings, Kristen Brand, Mike Flisak, Cathy Gamble, Jennifer Green, Conna Kemp, Shiela Kyle, Tom Kyle, Jim MacInnes, Laura McLeod, Joan McPherson, Allen Patten, Rod Quin, Ariane Sohn, Cydney Taylor, and Dena Vinqvist.
