Salish Weave Collection

This design is inspired by a Coast Salish carved comb. Three Salish design elements, (oval, trigon and crescent) create two wolf heads and the abstract depiction of the anatomical features of the wolves.

– lessLIE

In Coast Salish stories, the Wolf is known for its strong hunting skills that are necessary to provide for this family-oriented creature. The Wolf is sometimes associated as the First Nations bands themselves since both Aboriginals and Wolves hunt, gather, and defend.

lessLIE, or Leslie Robert Sam (born 1973) is a Coast Salish artist from Duncan, BC. This highly talented and original artist works in multi-media, but particularly enjoys dealing with serigraphs. As a graduate student at the University of Victoria, he studied conventional Coast Salish art. The artist draws on traditional iconographic elements, while inventively intertwining his art with contemporary texts.
