About Legacy Art Galleries

The University of Victoria Legacy Art Galleries houses UVic’s Art Collection. The collection consists of some 19,000 art objects which support the teaching and research programs of the University.

Since the founding of the collection in 1953 a number of named collections have provided the thematic direction of the acquisition program. The two founding collections were the University of Victoria Collection and the John and Katharine Maltwood Collection. A third donation received in 2001, the Michael C. Williams Collection, provided art of the Pacific Northwest. The majority of Glenn Howarth’s 2-D works in The Averted Eye Sees are from this collection. Visit the Legacy Art Galleries website here.

About Special Collections and University Archives

The personal ephemera of Glenn Howarth featured in this exhibition, including photographs, sketches, and catalogues, are provided by the University of Victoria Libraries Special Collections. Special Collections serves as a research and teaching resource for students, faculty, and the community at large. Its mandate is to collect, preserve, and make accessible rare books, manuscripts, architectural plans, photographs, and oral history interviews. All members of the university community, as well as those outside the university, are welcome to use the resources and services of the department.
