British, Canadian 1916-2010
Known primarily for her career as a poet (under her maiden name of Page), P.K. Irwin did not trade her typewriter for a sketchpad until 1957 when she moved to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil with her husband who was on a diplomatic assignment. That was when Irwin found a new creative outlet in paints, India inks, and crayons. After relocating to Victoria in 1964, she exhibited her artwork at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria and organized readings at the artist-run centre Open Space.
