Sculptor Robert de Castro often carved weathered driftwood and found material to bring out their inherent forms. His sculptures blurred the distinction as to where the artist’s intervention began and ended by deliberately making them appear rough and unfinished. This work links to the Pacific Northwest Coast environment in form and material, while the absence of titles and dates make his carvings all the more elusive. De Castro, a quiet and private person, frequently exhibited at local venues and actively participated in forming of the Point Group and later the Limners.
