Jack Wilkinson was an influential figure in the 1960s Victoria arts scene both as an artist and administrator. He established himself as a painter, sculptor and an architectural draughtsman. Some of his contributions to Victoria’s cityscape during his position as Senior Architectural Draftsman for the Provincial Department of Public Works include the mosaic totems within the fountain at Centennial Square. While also serving as chairman for the Provincial Committee on Art, he procured over 600 artworks and public art commissions for the provincial collection. He also participated directly in Victoria’s art scene as a classically trained artist primarily depicting the female nude. Wilkinson later joined the Limners in the mid 1970s.
