From Hesquiaht we have a story of a giant shark. It was a grave menace to our people destroying and swallowing canoe-loads of our families. Our Ancestor, who was a giant himself, began preparing himself and did so for four years. With his sacred weapon from a special race of people from out
there he removed the menace and made it safe on the oceans for our traveling people. The giant ancestor has a place on many family curtains [tapestries] of the West Coast Nuu-chah-nulth.
