Visiting Artist Program

For the last ten year, The Salish Weave Collection has sponsored the Visiting Artist Program in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Victoria. This program affords students an opportunity to learn directly from Salish artists through hands on activities. Over the years, artists have taught students through a variety of media, including wool through Salish knitting and weaving, and cedar through basketry. Histories and contemporary innovations in Salish design forms have been taught through drawing and painting. Here, a selection of photographs document the experiential learning that took place each year in the classroom as well as the artworks that artists created during their residency that are now on permanent exhibition in the Cornett Building at the University of Victoria.
