Inuvialuk artist Maureen Gruben was born and raised in Tuktoyaktuk. She spent much of her childhood sewing with her mother and trapping with her father. She graduated in 2012 with a BFA from the University of Victoria, where she was awarded the Elizabeth Valentine Prangnell Scholarship Award. Her focus on building a contemporary art practice began in 2016 and she has since exhibited regularly across Canada and internationally, including at grunt gallery, Vancouver Art Gallery, National Gallery of Canada, Winnipeg Art Gallery, Anchorage Museum, and Uppsala Museum. Her work is held in national and private collections.
