Untitled (2020)

Caribou heart sac, acrylic medium, silver thread, aluminum strips

For Untitled, a caribou heart sac—the membrane that holds the muscle of the heart—has been shaped by hand into a translucent vessel stitched carefully around the rim with an adornment of silver thread. Its glossy interior has an array of subtle, translucent colours and veins that are unique to the individual animal, but a heart sac is common to the biology of mammals, including humans. This small bowl holds a sacred space for the continuity of mutual health and life.

Absolutely love this show, such a sensitive subtle portrayal of a rich and adaptive culture and the artist’s response to it.
